Anti-Ageing Treatments: Dispelling Common Myths

Ageing is a natural part of being human, but that doesn’t mean we have to live with being unhappy about our appearance. Anti-ageing treatments are on the rise globally, especially with us living (and working) longer than ever. At our skin clinic here in Inverness, our experts focus on two treatments – lip fillers and dermal fillers – and separate fact from fiction.

Lip fillers

First up, it’s lip fillers. Beloved by celebrities for their ability to shape, define and add volume to the lips, they’re a firm favourite at our Inverness skin clinic. Here are a few myths about them:

1: You can’t fix botched lip fillers
When using hyaluronic acid-based injections, it’s possible to remove, break down or even reverse the appearance of lip fillers using lip filler dissolvers, thanks to a special enzyme called hyaluronidase. Of course, if you visit a reputable skin clinic such as ours, you shouldn’t need to fix them!

2: Lip fillers are full of fake chemicals
Lip fillers use hyaluronic acid to boost the appearance of our smiles. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that can be found in our bodies but like many things, depletes with age.

3: Lip fillers feel unnatural
Again, this just simply isn’t true. Like any aesthetic injectable, it’s something you may need to get used to at first, but that’s partly because some swelling is expected – once this settles, your lips shouldn’t feel any different than usual.

Dermal fillers

We now move onto dermal fillers, which also use hyaluronic acid, and can be used to shape, sculpt and anti-age the face. Here are some common myths:

#1: Dermal fillers look fake
While we can accept that there may be people who like a statement look, it’s not something we aim for at our Inverness skin clinic. In fact, we favour a natural enhancement that gives you a subtle boost without overpowering your natural beauty.

#2: Dermal fillers need too much maintenance
Actually, the opposite is true – with some people experiencing results for up to 18 months, they’re actually one of the longest-lasting aesthetic treatments on the market.

#3 Dermal fillers are dangerous
Again, untrue; dermal fillers are recognised as being a safe and effective aesthetics procedure. Though any treatment can pose a risk, it’s rare to develop any serious side-effects from dermal fillers. Having said this, fillers can always be dangerous in the hands of an unexperienced practitioner. Rest assured that our dermal fillers are carried out by Emma J herself, a highly experienced Registered General Nurse and Advanced Aesthetics Practitioner who is Harley Street trained.
